Capturing Serials + NFC through the Mobile App

When to use this workflow
Use the mobile app to capture serials + link NFCs when:
You don't have an NFC Tower set up
You're capturing small batches or one-offs
You're in the field or away from the production line PC

Steps 1 to 6 — Open the product and start a capture session
1. In the mobile app, press the Squircle. The central button in the bottom navigation bar (the Scannable logo). This opens the action menu.
2. Press Search and type in the part/SKU number. Select the Search tab at the top, then enter the part number or SKU. You can also search by name or serial number.
3. Press on the product. The search returns matching products — tap the correct one to open its detail screen.
4. Press Options. On the product detail screen, press the Options button at the bottom.
5. Press Capture Serials. From the options menu, select Capture Serials.
6. Enter the details and press Continue. Fill in:
Purchase order reference (optional)
Batch number — type or scan
Date of manufacture
Then press Continue
Steps 7–12: Capture serials, link NFCs, and submit
7. Type or scan the serial number. Enter the serial manually, or press Scan to scan a barcode/QR code.
8. Press Add NFC. Once the serial is entered, press Add NFC to start the NFC linking flow.
9. Tap the NFC tag with the phone's NFC sweet spot. The Ready to Scan dialog appears. Hold the NFC tag against your phone's NFC sweet spot. Find your phone's sweet spot here: scannable.io/blog-posts/finding-your-phones-nfc-sweet-spot
10. Press Add to list. Once the NFC is linked (button shows NFC Added), press Add to list at the bottom.
11. Add another serial, or press Register Serials to submit. Review the batch and order information, then either:
Press Add another serial number to continue capturing
Press Register [N] serials to finalise and submit
12. Done — serials and NFCs are linked in Scannable. You'll see a Serials added successfully confirmation. The serials and their linked NFC tags are now in Scannable.
Notes & tips
Sweet spot matters. NFC range on phones is small (~10–20 mm) and the antenna location varies by model. Train operators on where their phone's sweet spot is before they start a batch.
Under/over production is fine — capture as many or as few serials as you actually produce against the batch.
