Scannable for Manufacturers | Capture Serials & Link NFCs

Introduction

Recognising that most Manufacturers currently create their serial numbers on the production line, Scannable can capture these serial numbers in our software/database.

This workflow also pairs well with ‘linking’ NFC tags to each serial number.

This process uses our NFC Tower hardware and requires an app installed on your production line PC to drive the USB connections to the NFC Tower.

Serial Formats

Before capturing serials, each manufacturer defines one or more serial formats. These determine how serial numbers are generated.

Capturing a Batch of Serials

When you raise a PO with your suppliers or an internal works order/batch, you can create a ‘serial session’ which can have serials added to the session from the production line.

1. Click ‘Capture Serials’

Enter the batch/grouping information for this ‘serial run’. This includes:

  • Purchase order reference (optional)

  • Customer (optional)

  • Batch number (typed or auto-generated)

  • Date of manufacture (can be set forward, for orders with 90 lead times)

2. Select the Product and SKU

Choose:

  • The specific SKU (variant)

  • The quantity of items you expect to be produced in the batch (no problem if you under/over produce, this is just a target quantity the production line operator can see)

    • Example: 1000 carabiners in batch → capture serials will accept under/over 1000 serials

3. Capture Serials

After saving the batch details, Scannable creates an ‘Active serial session’.

You can then view:

  • The serial run

  • All serials captured for that batch

To capture the serials & link NFC tags, you need to install the NFC tower App and use this with the NFC Tower Hardware.
